What we like about Magni: PVA is water-soluble and will dissolve in water in 60-120 days.

PVA Bags

Magni’s PVA pellets can be used in almost any plastic converter.

  • Looks and feels just like traditional plastic film: smooth a flexible with a bit of stretch. Translucent options available.

  • PVA is a water-soluble material that breaks down much more easily than PLA or other polymers that require the high heats of an industrial compost facility.

It’s lightweight like plastic without the reliance on fossil fuels or the permanence in landfills.

  • In Magni’s own words, “[the bags] completely dissolve within 60-120 days once in contact with any body of water. Wild life can ingest its content without any problem since it does not contain any chemicals.”

It’s not clear if Magni has a compost certification, but we would love to test it to see if it dissolves over time in the moisture of a compost pile.

  • Bioplastics look and feel like traditional plastic. Proper disposal information should be an important part of the design so that they don't end up in the wrong waste stream. Let customers know if they should recycle or compost the plastic. Ask Magni for guidance on disposal messaging.

Magni’s PVA bags should not be tossed in the recycling stream, because that’s just an extra step on the way to landfill.

Paper Bags

Made with 40% or 100% recycled content.

  • The look and feel of traditional kraft paper grocery bags, with options for various thicknesses.

  • Paper is made from plants — a renewable resource. Most paper is made from trees. Trees sequester carbon, which is ultimately released back into the air at the paper's end of life when it biodegrades or is composted or incinerated.

Paper is lightweight in shipping and can be engineered for structural stability with flat pack shipping.

  • The best afterlife for most paper products — from collateral to boxes — is recycling. Most paper fibers can be recycled more than five times. Paper with tape or stickers can still be recycled, because non-paper materials are sifted out in the recycling process.

  • Printed designs will take on the finish of the paper. For a shiny finish, you’ll need to inquire about added coatings. Coatings may also be necessary if your packaging needs extra water resistance.
