Monosol

Monosol

🏭 US (Indiana)

What we like about Monosol: Dissolvable film used in tide pods and many cleaning applications. The material still needs some type of secondary packaging. Becuase it's water soluable, PVOH can not package water based products, instead it usually houses alchol based products (detergents, cleaners etc)

PVOH Roll (Water Soluble)

  • Relatively fragile and gummy film.

  • PVOH will require some secondary packaging, as it is not robust enough to survive supply chain demands on it’s own.

This can be a tricky area to navigate, as often brands will will use PVOH as a plastic-free option but end up using a plastic pouch as secondary packaging. There are interesting use cases of coating papers serving as good protection and casing for PVOH vessels.

  • PVOH is water soluble, meaning it can break down in a a kitchen sink.

  • Shorter shelf life than laminated plastic options.
