Paper Tube Co.

Paper Tube Co.

🏭 us (Illinois)

What we like about Paper Tube Co: Good stock and custom options and low minimums. Stock tube options are plastic-free, and use water-based glues so they are fully recyclable with paper. 100 tube minimum for screen printing, 1,000 tube minimum for custom tube styles.

Paper Tubes

  • Paper tubes are made from layers of paper that form a strong cylindrical shape.

  • Paper is made from trees, which are a renewable resource. The tubes are not sourced from recycled paper, but they are completely plastic-free unless you choose to customize with a plastic coating.

With or without a coating, these paper tubes should be ok when recycled with paper, but composting may not be possible (See Disposal)

Depending on the use case and the environment, paper tubes can be reused for years. Consider encouraging customers to reuse, or using paper tubes as a vessel for refills.

  • The best afterlife for most paper products — from collateral to boxes — is recycling. Most paper fibers can be recycled more than five times. Paper with tape or stickers can still be recycled, because non-paper materials are sifted out in the recycling process.

While most papers are compostable, Paper Tube Co. is very transparent about the feasibility of their tubes composting. While they haven’t done compostability testing, here’s what they have to say:

“Tubes have a pretty thick spiral wrapped core which may or may not break down to the extent necessary within the required period of time. Given that the tubes are plastic-free and use minimal additives, they will eventually break down (thus being labeled biodegradable), we just don't know if they'll meet the criteria for an official compostability claim unless we spend the time and money for the test.”

  • Printed designs will match the finish of the paper. For a shiny finish, you’ll need to inquire about added coatings. Coatings may also be necessary if your packaging needs extra water resistance.

A glossy finish may be possible by using a glossy stock or an added coating.
